The Lost Boys TV Pilot Gets A Cast And A Synopsis

Recently we shared some news that The CW was planning to make a TV show version of The Lost Boys, the cult classic 80’s vampire movie. Now some details have emerged through CBM about casting for the pilot and a brief synopsis which matches up pretty well with the plot of the movie, with a few trademark network TV additions, but I’ll get to that.

The casting seems to be for the same roles as the movie with some slight differences. Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf) will play Michael and his mother Lucy will be played by Kiele Sanchez (Kingdom). David the vampire will be played by Dakota Shapiro (Valley of the Boom) and Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed) will play Stella who is a version of the character Star from the movie.

There’s no word yet on the casting of Sam, Michael’s younger brother nor of the Frogg’s who the outlet believes have been gender-swapped and will now be the Frogg sisters. Ok, I can live with that for sure.

So far things sound very much like the movie, but when I read the following synopsis my heart sank a little. Check it out.

“Still mourning the death of her husband, Lucy (Sanchez) is forced to move back home to Santa Carla — something she’s dreaded since causing a town scandal 27 years ago, when she ditched her boyfriend to run off with another man. Lucy’s elder son, Michael’s (Posey) plan to attend Columbia Medical school is thrown off by the diagnosis that he shares the same genetic weakness that killed his father. The only thing that consoles him is the friendship he strikes up with Stella (Rahimi), a young woman who runs a concession stand on the Santa Carla boardwalk. Rahimi’s Stella, carefree and Californian, has an immediate spark with Michael (Posey), but she’s not single: Her boyfriend is the sexy, dangerous and immortal vampire David (Shapiro). And now she’ll have to choose between the living and the undead…”

Now I guess there are some similarities here to the story of the movie, but right away I can see the network TV gears rumbling, for the worse. I already feel like I have an idea of where this show is going and it sounds a long way away from the kinetic energy and humor of the original movie. It won’t be dark, it won’t be as violent on The CW and frankly, I am already tapping out on this one.

I’ll be genuinely surprised if this is any better than the disaster it’s looking like right now. It does, however, sound like the kind of guff my wife watches before falling asleep of an evening, so someone might be pleased by this?

Catherine Hardwicke will direct the pilot episode written by Heather Mitchell
