Suprised But Pleased
Chapter 10 of The Mandalorian ‘The Passenger’ was a fairly simple episode. However, given the brief description of the episode for this week on Disney+ I ended up totally blindsided. Just to give some clarity on what I mean. Here was the description preview of Chapter 10.
“The Mandalorian must ferry a passenger with precious cargo on a risky journey.”
I just assumed, wrongly, that this would be the episode we saw from the trailer set on water. The word ferry, had me place Mando and the Child on what appears to be a ferry in the traditional sense. However this week’s episode seems like the precursor to that water planet based episode. Mando is given information of where some Mandalorians may be. The price for this information is that he must take a mother to a new planet so she can hatch her spawn. Well, she was a frog after all?

The episode takes place mostly on the Razor Crest, initially with an exciting chase scene involving two republic X-Wing’s. Then in order to escape the pursuers Mando has to land, and the Crest ends up falling into a cave. That cave contained giant frost-spiders of some kind and you can imagine what happens from there. Mando definitely has to feed that child more, not only did he eat one of the frog spawn, he also ate a dead spider hatchling. In the end Mando manages to escape by getting aid from those X-Wing pilots who were chasing him to begin with.
That means Mando and his passenger have not yet even set foot on the planet that I thought we’d be spending the most time on this week. So good guess work from me, but you can see where I made my mistake, ferry does not necessarily mean on a ferry. Saying all that, I thought Chapter 10 was another great episode, despite not really advancing the story along much.
So What’s Next?
I dare not say it, but surely that episode with the actual ferry will be next week? Is that the planet that Mando is taking his passenger to? I am genuinely not positive, but it seems like Mando had those eggs on that planet in the trailer. Whether that comes next, or something else comes fist is my quandary? As this week showed, we really can only guess at what comes next. I was expecting to see that first glimpse of Sasha Banks this week, could instead be next week? Will we find out once and for all whether Banks is playing Sabine Wren, or another as yet unnamed character? Will Mando find any other Mandalorians, and could Sabine or Bo Katan be the other Mandalorians that Dinn was told of?
I’m no so wary of guessing too far in advance. I am also starting to wonder if we will see The Mandalorian and Boba Fett clash over the latter’s armor? We revealed that a Boba Fett show was being developed, then, this morning Deadline ran a report. That report you can check in the related section below. Essentially they ‘think’ the Boba Fett show (a mini-series) could actually film within the next few weeks. Is it therefore possible that Fett’s brief cameo last week was more of a tease? A tease for what’s to come overall, rather than what’s to come in Season 2 of The Mandalorian? At this point I have no idea of the answer to that question, but that’s part of the fun of this speculation game isn’t it?

If i was to guess, I’d say that perhaps Fett and Mando don’t meet until Season 3 of The Mandalorian. If this Boba Fett mini-series is going to be followed up by filming on The Mandalorian Season 3, the two could be connected? Could this mini-series be about what Boba Fett has gone through since we last saw him?
Fett’s escape from the Sarlacc pit in the old EU was great. It was a short story in the collection Tales From Jabba’s Palace. The whole story was basically in Fett’s head as he talked subconsciously to a previous victim of the Sarlacc as he was digested. Fett manages to set off an explosive eventually which free’s him after a real mental test. I would love to see that story told on screen, but alas, I think it’s highly unlikely. Kyle Malone and I spoke about some of this on last week’s The Cantina Podcast, you guys should check that out for our predictions on how The Mandalorian Season 2 will go. We will also be recording this week’s episode today.
Instead I could see a new story crafted over 2-3 episodes showing what Fett has been up to since he got eaten. It’s therefore possible that could set up a conflict of some kind between Fett and Mando in The Mandalorian Season 3. Especially if that Fett Mini-series fills the audience in before hand.
The Final Word
It’s hard to say whether The Mandalorian and Boba Fett will clash in Season 2 or not? This really is all guesswork, but here’s what we know. Fett did not come after Mando, immediately anyway. However, that does not mean Fett could not show up on Mando’s trail in the next episode? There is a Boba Fett mini-series in development which could be filming very soon. Again, that doesn’t mean Fett will show up for the first time again there? Fett could show up without having his story told till later.
But my guess is that Fett might not show up again in any meaningful way until The Mandalorian Season 3. After of course his own mini-series which will stream before The Mandalorian Season 3. I’m not claiming anything here, this is just by own guess work. You may have a different opinion, if you do, share it. Let me know what happens next between The Mandalorian and Boba Fett?
