The Mandalorian Season 3 Directors Revealed

During a recent interview, The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni says Grogu will talk sooner rather than later.

In a report from THR following the new trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3, we also have the directors revealed for this season. There are a few we knew were coming back, such as Carl Weathers, Bryce Dallas Howard and Rick Famuyiwa. However probably most surprising is that executive producer Dave Filoni is not directing any episodes of Season 3, possibly because Filoni was always planning to direct Ahsoka? Plus we have some newcomers, well, newcomers to Star Wars anyway, check it out.

‘Directors on this season of The Mandalorian include returning helmer Rick Famuyiwa, Black Panther cinematographer Rachel Morrison, Minari filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, Mandalorian actor Carl Weathers, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s Peter Ramsey and returning Mando director Bryce Dallas Howard.’

So far everybody who is returning already has great Mando episodes under their belt. Let’s hope the new blood pull it off just as well, Star Wars is a tricky show to get right. Filoni, Favreau, and now Famuyiwa remain as executive producers and we already knew that John Favreau wrote most of the episodes in Season 3 with Filoni having a lesser input overall with writing duties.

I’m surprised by this point that Favreau hasn’t done more directing himself. Perhaps he feels its too much to also be showrunner, exec producer and head writer on Mando? I recall recently that Tony Gilroy was glad his plans changed and he had to bring in other directors for Andor. Gilroy said the other voices really helped and also he hadn’t realized how much work would be in showrunning that series.

As you likely already know, The Mandalorian Season 3 will premiere on Disney+ on March 1st. As for official plot details, all we have is the vague log line below.

“The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”

Tells us nothing, but we don’t have long to wait now. The Cantina will of course be reviewing each and every episode of Mando S3 for GenreVerse. Also, I will be covering written reviews for each episode as well, here on LRM.

What do you think as The Mandalorian Season 3 directors revealed? As always, leave any thoughts below.
