The Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon Has Force Powers Hints Giancarlo Esposito

The Mandalorian‘s Moff Gideon has Force powers? I must admit despite Gideon currently possessing the Darksaber, I never considered the possibility he would be Force sensitive. However, a recent interview from star Giancarlo Esposito might be throwing some hints at that direction. Esposito only appeared as Gideon in the final couple of episodes in The Mandalorian Season 1, but he will be back in Season 2. Let’s face it, any show is enhanced when Esposito appears and the man has become a legend for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Esposito will also be starring in new video game Far Cry 6. For the promotion of this new game Esposito recently spoke with ET. You can catch the full video below, but here is what Esposito said about Star Wars specifically. He also made some interesting comments about Marvel, but I will write that up in another article, if watching the full video is too time consuming.

“To be in the position of having that regal, graceful power but have this saber which delineates a different part of me than any other character,” Esposito says. “To have this saber means I can use it, and I can do my own dirty work, that I’m a fighter, that I’m a warrior. That’s part of me. It also creates the possibility that he is one of the ones. He possibly has that, and that to me is interesting because, is he really that fallen hero? Is he a descendant of Darth Vader? Who is he? What does he want? He knows all about everything, and you’ll have to wait to find out. Yeah, he’s actually pretty good with that Darksaber too.”

Now, I don’t think Esposito means a biological descendant of Darth Vader, that would be both silly and controversial. I’m guessing that the hint is that Gideon may have some Force abilities and learned a little from Vader. Perhaps one of Vader’s underlings like the Inquisitors?

The Darksaber

The Mandalorian's Moff Gideon has Force powers

As for ‘one of the ones’, well it’s hard to escape the fact Esposito is referencing Force users here. One of the burning questions from The Mandalorian is how Gideon got hold of the Darksaber. When Rebels ended, the Darksaber was in the hands of Bo Katana, then the original trilogy of movies took place. At some point during the OT Gideon has got that Darksaber from Bo Katana, and made himself known to Mandalorians such as Din Djarin (El Mando).

We don’t know what happened to Mandalore between the end of Rebels and the start of The Mandalorian. Mandalore is never mentioned in the OT, and the only Mandalorian ever seen prior to the prequels was the fleeting appearance of Boba Fett. Far as we can tell, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren and Bo Katan could show up in The Mandalorian Season 2. LRM’s own source tells us this is before spinning off into their own shows.

I guess the fate of Mandalore and how it ties together Gideon, Katana, Wren, Ahsoka and El Mando  is something we will find out more about. If Gideon is Force sensitive, could he have been searching for ‘The Child’ for reasons of succession? Is Gideon perhaps not strong enough with the Force to be the new Emperor so he is looking for a disciple he can teach until he is surpassed? Lots of questions and currently we have no real answers.

What do you think of Esposito’s hints that The Mandalorian‘s Moff Gideon has Force powers? Leave your thought below in the usual spot.
