“Someday you will be El Presidente… they will hate you Diego. Everything you say, do, believe… will be wrong.”
Giancarlo Esposito has been on a roll lately. In the last year, he’s been on Better Call Saul, Dear White People, The Mandalorian, The Boys, Harley Quinn…and the list goes on. If you’re hankering for more of the prolific actor, you’re in luck. A couple of days ago, the Hong Kong PlayStation store leaked the setting, synopsis, art and release date for the upcoming game, Far Cry 6. The Art showed Giancarlo Esposito on the cover of the game, with his hands on the shoulders of his son, Diego.
Seemingly confirming the details of the leak, Ubisoft went into damage control, stating from their official Instagram account that “Anton would not be pleased. See you on Sunday at #UbiForward.” Making good on their promise regarding the reveal, Ubisoft showed off several games at the online conference, to include the Esposito lead 6th game in the long running open-world franchise.

Set for release in February 2021, the game takes place in the fictitious “Yara,” a Cuba-esque “tropical paradise frozen in time.” Esposito, who plays “Anton Castillo” is “intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.” Esposito won’t be the first Better Call Saul alum to lead a Far Cry game. 2012’s Far Cry 3 featured Michael Mando as the villainous Vaas. There’s some speculation on the internet that that connection may not be entirely coincidental.
Ubisoft has been having a rough go of it lately, with game sales of the last Ghost Recon tanking and 3 high profile executives leaving the company this week. General reaction to the news from UbiForward has been good. We’ll see if Ubisoft can pivot off the positive buzz to better sales and better conduct from their execs.
Far Cry 6 launches on 18 February 2021 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
