The Marvels Final Runtime Confirmed – Shortest MCU Film To Date

In what I think is a rather loaded statement, Disney CEO Bob Iger blames lack of executive supervisions for The Marvels box office failure

The Marvels final runtime has been confirmed and as we suspected it’s short, in fact it’s the shortest MCU film to date. Previously we had many rumors around The Marvels having a short runtime, but until the cut is locked you can never be 100% sure. Of course The Marvels will hit theaters in only a few weeks time, and now we have a reliable source to confirm.

This source below, as I’ve said before, has never been wrong on a runtime yet as long as I’ve been following them. That’s been years now and covered several high profile streaming shows and movies. Ergo, this is as a good as confirmed for me.

The average MCU movie has been 2 hours +, so this is definitely a short one. Yet budget wise, The Marvels cost around $270M, so this is no small budget affair.

Previously the shortest MCU movie was a tie between The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World. Both came in at 1:52 with credits. As you can see this makes The Marvels the shortest MCU movie to date. There have been in total 7 (now 8) MCU movies with a total runtime under 2 hours. All Thor movies other than the best one Ragnarok, the first two Ant-Man movies, Doctor Strange and the Hulk movie mentioned above.

Runtime and quality are not mutually exclusive. However, it is worth noting none of those mentioned above were all that good, (in my opinion). Well, save the first Ant-Man and maybe the first Doctor Strange. I would note that none comes close to a budget of $270M as The Marvels is reported to cost.

Not every MCU movie needs to be Avengers level, just make a profit. All the movies mentioned did in fact turn a profit, sometimes a healthy profit. Thor: Love and Thunder is the highest budget movie in that list. Love and Thunder‘s budget was reported to be $250M. However, it did make a profit. Probably because Ragnarok had been a breath of fresh air for the franchise. The Marvels doesn’t have that going for it.

Ergo, The Marvels is shortest runtime, but one of the larger budgets for an MCU film. It’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pans out?

The Marvels final runtime has been confirmed and it’s the shortest MCU film to date. As always, let us know what you think? Thoughts below.
