The New Mutants has had quite a history, and once it’s actually out in theaters, it’ll be interesting to take a look at its checkered past, as it had a lot of things going against it. In addition to being a new genre in the comic book movie field, it also came at the tail end of Fox’s independent reign, and around the same time as Dark Phoenix, a film that was…underwhelming, to say the least.

After the film being delayed for reshoots, those reshoots, seemingly never happening, a two-year wait, and rumors of Simon Kinberg taking the helm from Josh Boone, Boone resurfaced, even indicating that the movie that hits will actually be his original vision.

Now, we have a new trailer for us all to gander at.

Honestly, I may be in the minority on this, but I always thought this movie looked pretty good, and this new trailer only drives that thought home more for me. But one interesting thing to keep in mind is its disconnect from the MCU.

While the rumors aren’t credible, there were some that indicated Marvel Studios was deciding whether or not to weave the characters into the MCU. Additionally, there other rumors about them deciding to take out references to the word “mutants,” as it could conflict with their own upcoming take on mutants.
