The Next ‘Predator’ Film May Have Found Its Director

Fans of the Predator franchise can rejoice because it looks like 20th Centuries Studios is bringing the alien hunter back.  According to Deadline 20th Century Studios has approached 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct the next Predator film.  This would be the fifth installment of the Predator solo films along with two films that included the Alien franchise. The script is being written by Patrick Aison, who has credits attached to Kingdom, Jack Ryan, and Treadstone.

As a fan of the Predator films I am excited to see another film in the works but I am a little shocked.  While the follow up films have tried to recreate the magic the original film it has never been replicated.  The films do make a decent return since their budgets are traditional on the lower side.  According to BoxOfficeMojo the last film in the franchise grossed over $160,000,000 worldwide while operating on a budget of $88,000,000. So with a great return you can see why 20th Century Studios doesn’t mind moving forward with another Predator film.  With the project in a very early stage it is safe to assume that we won’t see this film hit theaters until 2022 or 2023.
