According to the latest piece of casting Barside Buzz, The Penguin show is casting for Salvatore Maroni. Maroni has already made a very brief appearance within The Batman, of which The Penguin is a spin-off. However the part was played by an unnamed extra it seems as it was brief and showed a scene from the past. However it seems like Maroni will be a friend, or rival to Oz in taking over the criminal empire left behind by Falcone in the movie.
The report comes from The Illuminerdi who I find to have a very good hit rate for casting calls. Here is what they had to say.
The Illuminerdi has learned from our sources that HBO Max is looking to cast a man in his 60’s to play Salvatore Maroni. Don Salvatore Maroni is the head of the Maroni crime family, an organization that has a long-standing rivalry with the Falcones. Don Maroni has been featured in film and TV programs such as The Dark Knight, Gotham, Batman Forever, and even The Batman, often as a younger man.

The story of Maroni was one of the key mysteries of The Batman. Now we know Maroni was set up to take a fall by Carmine Falcone. I would guess if he is out of prison, he’s going to want payback. However, for now, who can say. Who would you like to see as Salvatore Maroni? It does not sound like a massive part given the casting call seems more open. However this is speculation time, so for now you can have anyone?
