The Predator Tracking For $30 Million Opening Weekend

What possible hope does yet another revival film have of making big bucks at the box-office? That seems to be the eternal question in Hollywood, who is content to keep on pushing those established IPs until nothing is left to be milked. Some work very well and some are complete and utter flops (not to mention disgraces to humanity — I’m looking at you, The Wolfman, for some reason). Which will The Predator be?

Admittedly, the trailers for The Predator haven’t been too amazing, though I still retain some hope that director Shane Black will bring something interesting to the dormant series. But we’re not here today to talk about the quality of the movie. We’re here to talk about its potential box-office earnings.

According to Variety, The Predator is set to make between $25 million and $30 million at the domestic box-office. That’s just north of the disappointing opening the previous installment, Predators, had at the box-office back in 2010 with its $24.8M opening. In fact, it’d be higher than most of the other films in the franchise, save for Alien vs. Predator, but does that even count?

Without knowing the budget of the movie, it’s very hard to tell whether or not something will actually be good or bad for a film, as the line of profitability is unknown. That being said, the really important thing will be how well it sticks around at the theaters. Given that it will have very little coming out to compete with it weeks before or after its release, this will be a true test as to whether or not the brand carries any real value.
