The Process Of Creating ‘Night Terror’ Feature In ‘The Art Of Comic Books’

Earlier this year LRMonline brought you an exclusive feature from Tim Nardelli focusing on the process of making the comic book Night Terror.  The feature goes into the entire process from start to finish it took to create an original comic book.

Probably the most overlooked process in creating a comic book is in the first step, the script.  While popular in the film and television medium, comic book scripts are just as important as the visuals to a comic book.  When Tim started to the process to create Night Terror he had to sit down and take his vision and put it down in script format.  This allowed Tim to plan out the story and also give inspiration for the visuals.

After the script is finished then Tim goes into the storyboarding process.  Very similar to laying out the visual look of a film, the storyboards for a comic give the team an idea of how the comic book pages should look like.  In regard to Night Terror, Tim wanted to have a dark-scary presence for his story.  While most comic books in the early days were focused towards young children.  Comic books created more recently have targeted a more mature audience especially in the horror genre.  Tim’s vision for Night Terror is a darker theme and he wanted to tap into the fear of his readers.

The concept of Night Terror follows the main character, Matt Daio, as he faces his inner demon The Demonolith.  Once the script and storyboard are finalized then Tim was able to put together the actual comic book pages.  In the feature The Art of Comic Books Tim shows the process of bringing his concept into a visual narrative.
