‘The Unholy’ A Horror Film From Sony Pictures Release Date Revealed

The Unholy

Today Sony Pictures has announced the release date of their next horror film, The Unholy. This feature will premiere in theaters on Friday, April 2nd, and on PVOD later this year. This film is based on the 1983 horror novel, Shrine by English writer James Herbert. The story is about a deaf-mute girl that is miraculously cured one night after she runs into an oak tree one night behind her church. She is then able to perform miracle cures in front of the tree. But is it divine or something much darker that is giving her these abilities?

For the time being, we only know that The Walking Dead star, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to star in the film as a journalist looking to uncover the truth behind Alice’s new abilities. It will be produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Spilitopoulos also wrote and directed the film.

Here is the description of The Unholy that was provided by Sony Pictures along with a first look image:

The Unholy follows the story of Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), hoping to revive his career, visits the small New England town to investigate.  When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister. The Unholy is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Evan Spiliotopoulos, written for the screen and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules, Charlie’s Angels, Beauty and the Beast). The film is based upon James Herbert’s best-selling book Shrine.
