The Walking Dead Telltale Game Will Continue From Skybound Games

Recent weeks have not been kind to Telltale Games’ PR. The once-beloved video game developer has seen better days. As was announced recently, they are pretty much closing up shop. However, when the announcement was first made it was stated that they’d keep on a skeleton crew to help finish up their contractual obligations, including The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

But if you’ve been following the news, you know that really wasn’t possible. Their skeleton crew quickly dwindled, and it became clear that they would not be able to fulfill a single one of their obligations, let alone the conclusion to their most successful property. So would this be a story without an end?

Luckily no. Skybound Games recently took to Twitter to announce they would be taking over game duties. Here’s what they had to say:

“We’re SO happy to announce that we’ve reached a deal with @telltalegames that will allow Skybound to continue #TheWalkingDead: The Final Season! Let’s wrap up Clem’s story right! More details to come soon.”

As mentioned in the tweet, there are few other details regarding the game other than it looks like they plan to release this physically as well as digitally, which some fans will really love. What they’ll love even more is that this won’t actually be a case of the property getting taken over by a whole new company. Nope, they will actually be bringing the creative team from Telltale Games to Skybound.

“We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion,” TWD creator Robert Kirkman told an audience at New York Comic-Con Saturday night. “We can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”

As far as news goes, this is about as good as we can expect things to get. Sure, I’m sure there are plenty who ended up getting screwed over by Telltale Games, but at least fans will get to see a conclusion for the story from those who know the franchise best.

What do you think of this news? Are you happy we’ll get to see this franchise close its doors on its own terms? Let us know down below!
