Well, this is an interesting piece of news.

Avengers: Infinity War ended with our heroes in tatters. No, they weren’t scattered to the wind necessarily, but rather a good number of them were actually scattered IN the wind. Yup, more than half of our goodies had disintegrated into little more than a pile of dust, leaving behind the original Avengers team plus a few more. But yeah, things weren’t looking good.

Though while fanboys and fangirls around me cried in theaters like a bunch of whiny babies, I reveled in the whole deal, laughing at them and their weak hearts. How could they be so sad for these characters we knew were coming back? I saw one thing as inevitable. The next film, Avengers 4, will pick up right where we left off and see the Avengers working to undue Thanos’ snap, right?

Well, that may very well be the case, but it doesn’t look like it’ll happen as quickly as I imagined. According to SuperBrosMovies writer Daniel R., the film will actually take place YEARS after the first one. Here’s what he said on Twitter.

When asked to clarify how many years, he answered.

So what does this change? I guess not a lot. It’s still very possible for them to go back in time and undo everything Thanos did, but it does add just a little bit of weight to it all that they actually had to live in this half-lived universe for a solid five years.

This means they will have dealt with the fallout that could come with a half-dead Earth, and that we’d get to see a world where new rules now applied. I do think everything will ultimately be undone, but the fact that we’re actually going to witness this real fallout is amazing to me and opens up an unimaginable amount of conflict potential. I like this a lot, if true.
