The trailer for the new film White Boy Rick has been released. Set it in the 1980s, film follows the story of Richard Wershe Jr., who was eventually sentenced to life in prison after becoming both a drug dealer and the youngest ever informant for the F.B.I. The film is based on a true story and has newcomer Richie Merritt in the role of the titular character.

Wershe Jr. begins selling weapons on the streets and it isn’t long before he finds himself involved in the drug trade.

The film looks pretty good to me, I am a sucker for films based on a true story (depending on what they’re about of course). What I find interesting is that Wershe Jr. was an informant first, and after his stint with the F.B.I., is when he got involved in selling drugs. While I am interested to see how the newcomer does in the film, McCounaghey’s role in  seems like one of those that he can disappear into.

White Boy Rick is directed by Yann Demange from a screenplay by Logan Miller and Andy Weiss. The film stars Matthew McCounaghey , Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Marsan. Also appearing in the film are Rory Cochrane and verteran actor Bruce Dern.

Interesting bit of info: “During the last week of principal photography in Cleveland, production was briefly halted on two separate occasions due to exchanges of gunfire in neighborhoods near the set. ” – IMDb
