While everyone seemed to be itching to peg The Witcher as the next Game of Thrones, the reality is that the shows couldn’t be more different. While the latter series is sprawling, political, and almost devoid of magic, the former is focused, more primal, and packed to the brim full of magical moments. Another aspect in which the shows were different revolves around the fight scenes.

Whereas Game of Thrones had fairly stiff and (probably) more realistic combat, The Witcher seems to go straight for stylized and intense combat. Of course, there’s a lot that goes into every fight scene from every series, and it’s especially nice to go behind the scenes to see how it was all brought together.

Fight choreographer Vladimír Furdík took to social media to show off a previsualization of an entire fight scene, which consists of stuntpeople going at it, and it all getting filmed with the dynamism you’d expect of an actual TV show (minus the polish of visual effects). Personally, I feel like this gives me even more respect for the craft of fight choreography because it looks as though their expertise has to extend beyond simply fighting and into actual filmmaking so that their vision is properly executed on the show itself, which I imagine is great for the filmmakers.
