The Witcher Season 2 Looks Set To Film In Scotland

The Witcher appears to have been a pretty big success so far for Netflix. I say “appears” because obviously Netflix doesn’t really release their viewing figures. However, the amount of memes I’ve seen, the general feedback from viewers, and the undoubted success of “Toss a Coin,” make me think it has been a hit.

Filming is set to begin soon for Season 2 and it seems like there will be a new filming location in my homeland of Scotland. The show’s location scout team was recently there with director Stephen Surjik, and it looks as though they are scouting areas around the Isle of Skye, one of Scotland’s Northern Islands.

One would assume they are looking to film in summertime this year, as the Isle of Skye is not known for its ideal filming weather for most of the year-round. However, in Summer it’s practically daylight for around 20-22 hours a day. Apparently the team stopped at Talisker beach, The Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing, and the Fairy Pools waterfall, according to Redanian Intelligence.

Also, check out the Instagram post below showing an image of said scouting team in action.

It remains to be seen whether any of these sites are going to be chosen or the team to decide to head off elsewhere. If I had to guess, I would say that filming on Skye would be perfect to represent the island nation of Skellige within The Witcher universe. Skellige is basically a hybridization of something like Ireland, Scotland, and the Vikings rolled into one. I certainly recall that in the video game version, the residents of Skellige were most definitely ancient Scottish in both accent and stereotype.

I recall from the books that Ciri spends a bit of time crowing up in Skellige and forms a bond with the rulers of those islands. So maybe this is one of the events they are planning to cover in Season 2 of the show? What did you think of The Witcher and what are you hoping for with Season 2?
