The Witcher Season 2 To Expand The Role Of This Race

The Witcher Gets Clips, Spin-Off's, Release Date And An Early Season 3 Renewal

The Witcher may be an epic fantasy series, but the first season was actually fittingly personal. It focused heavily on three key characters and didn’t do much to show events outside of their limited perspective. This had the positive effect of getting audiences to more easily identify with the characters, but world-building hounds may not have been as satisfied. After all, isn’t the point of epic fantasy to engage in a huge alternate reality?

Well, fret not, because it sounds like Season 2 of the show will be expanding the mythology. Of course, it’s sure to continue chronicling the neverending struggles between the North and Nilfgaard, but can we expect to see other non-human races play a more prominent role? In Season 1, we saw a few elves at the center of a conflict, but outside of that, not much was known about them.

Now, thanks to Redanian Intelligence, it looks like we know the answer will be a resounding yes. Not only will they be introducing Elven sorceress Francesca Findabair, but we’ll see the return of King Filavandrel, who we saw in one episode of Season 1. Additionally, it looks like we will be seeing an entire army of Elves, though the context of their scenes are unknown.

This news doesn’t just come in word form. If you want, you can visit the outlet and see a whole host of set photos that feature a bunch of pointy-eared extras. Filming reportedly also took place over the course of three days, but for all we know, they could still feature a bigger role.

As someone who hasn’t read the books, I am interested to see how Netflix handles the expansive world and overall narrative. The first season featured a unique chronological structure that worked well but wasn’t exactly something that could be replicated going forward. As such, who knows what role these characters will play and how they will be woven into the narrative.
