The Witcher has been a massive hit, and I’m happy with that. I gave the series a rave review, (well, the first five episodes) but was dismayed to see less positive reviews from other critics. Luckily I must be more in tune with the fan base, or I just really like Henry Cavill in the bath. So anyway, Season 2 of the Netflix show cannot come fast enough for me.
Unfortunately, we do have a bit of a wait with The Witcher Season 2, not due to hit until Spring of NEXT year. Filming has begun on Season 2, and I know that Henry Cavill is currently abroad filming. (Don’t ask me how I know, but I have heard this reliably.)
With Season 2 will come a host of new and returning characters from The Witcher universe. One actor who has been rumored to be involved for a while is Kristofer Hivju. The actor is most famous for playing one of my favorite characters on Game of Thrones, Tormund Giantsbane (image above). Hivju is probably the one actor’s name I see coming up most amongst fan discussions. How do they get him in, who could he play? And so on and so forth…
Well, it looks as if fans have got their wish. Redanian Intelligence, who has an extremely solid hit rate with scoops for The Witcher, has some news. The outlet claims that the rumors were true and that Hivju has definitely been cast in The Witcher Season 2. They also have a name for his character. It seems Hivju will be playing Nivellan, a character from the Witcher story ‘A Grain of Truth’.

The casting breakdown lists the character as ‘Nigel’. However, the outlet, who got access to this breakdown, have learned this is a codename for Nivellan. This ‘Nigel’ character is described as;
A charismatic, witty and funny man. He’s from an aristocratic family and has been cursed for the crimes he has committed in the past. The role is described as physically demanding with a requirement for a great emotional range.
I have not yet read ‘A Grain of Truth’, as my Witcher consumption has been delayed by other reading priorities. I, therefore, don’t know much about this character or how Hivju will be in the role. Fans do seem to think the episode featuring Hivju will be the opening one. Since this news broke, fans have been pouring over other clues, the consensus so far is Episode 1.
