The Witcher Season 5 Is Final Season- Plus Rats Prequel Is Canned

It has been announced that The Witcher Season 5 will be the final Season of the series, plus the The Rats prequel seems canned.

It has been announced that The Witcher Season 5 will be the final Season of the series, plus the The Rats prequel seems canned. First off on the news that The Witcher has been renewed for Season 5. However, that renewal also tolls the death bell for the series. Season 5 will be the final season of The Witcher on Netflix. The show will attempt to cover the remaining books in the series across Season 4 and 5. We picked up the news via Deadline.

“It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production. But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent,” Netflix confirmed.

It would be fair to say that The Witcher was a series which started reasonably strong, with room to grow. However, subsequent seasons of the show seem to have taken some strange choices with the narratives. Rumors swirled of a bust up between star Henry Cavill and the series producers. Season 4 is now filming with Liam Hemsworth replacing Cavill in the role of Geralt as a result. Witcher books fans were unhappy with Season’ 2 and 3. Video game fans were equally unimpressed, and the casual audience don’t seem that interested.

Netflix really did not get this one right. The worst offender being the terrible Blood Origins prequel movie. Yet, at times we got glimpses of what could be. No more so than in the anime Nightmare of the Wolf, which was excellent. I’m probably more looking forward to the next anime Sirens of the Deep coming out this year than I am for Season 4. Maybe that’s the future, just make animated series and reboot the series to fit in with the anime?

Netflix really could have had something that was up there with Game of Thrones if they played this right. But they chose the wrong writers and showrunner for this one it seems. Maybe someone will try again in a decade or so and get it right? Doubtful though.

Rats

We also have word that the prequel series The Rats may be in trouble. Redanian Intelligence says they heard some news about what happened with this show. You see it was filming, and set to be a 6-8 episode series. However, filming was cut short, way short. Then there was no word as to why this happened. Some fans assumed it was being shortened. However, RI say they’ve heard that Netflix canned the show early. According to the outlet, the show filmed around two episodes only and then after seeing it, Netflix canned the whole thing.

‘A few days ago we learned that The Rats only managed to film one or two episodes out of the intended six or eight. Upon seeing some early footage, we hear, Netflix decided not to pick up The Rats for a full season.’

‘What we were told days ago was that some of the footage from The Rats will most likely end up in The Witcher Season 4 in the form of flashbacks for the Rats. This coincides with what casting director of the series said a year ago when The Rats was in production.’

Yup, well played with this franchise Netflix, well played.

What do you think as The Witcher Season 5 will be the final Season of the series, plus the The Rats prequel seems canned? Thoughts below as always.
