While knowledge of the project was known before San Diego Comic-Con, it was still nice to see the logo for Black Widow among the rest of the announcements at the convention. Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff will finally get her long overdue solo film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As it turns out, Johansson won’t be the only actress playing a Black Widow. Rachel Weisz, who is also in the film says she is also playing a Black Widow. You can check out what Weisz had to say in an interview with IGN down below.
“Melina has been cycled through the Red Room programmed five times by the time the film starts. She started being cycled through when she was a child. She’s a highly accomplished spy and assassin but I can’t tell you her relationship to anyone else. There are quite a number. I’m a Black Widow and Scarlet and Florence. There are quite a lot of other characters you meet who are Black Widows.”
The film will of course be set before Avengers: Endgame, as we all know what happened to Black Widow in that film. I am not too familiar with the Black Widow character beyond the films, so I am not completely sure if more than one Widow is an aspect of the comics, however, there being multiple Widows sounds fine by me, and further peaks my interest in the project.
