This Space Jam Star Doesn’t Want A Sequel

Former NBA star Charles Barkley seems to have a strong opinion about any and everything. To date, he’s publicly commented on everything from Enron to being a Bill Clinton. Just look below. Here are 3 off the wall quotes from Barkley.

  1. On the Enron scandal investigation: “Almost all those politicians took money from Enron, and there they are holding hearings. That’s like O.J. Simpson getting in the Rae Carruth jury pool.”
  2. I had to explain to my daughter why that skank Monica Lewinski has an hour special on HBO this weekend.
  3. If you go out with a girl and they say she has a great personality, she’s ugly. If they tell you a guy works hard, he can’t play a lick. Same thing.

Now we can add Space Jam 2 to the list. While at this years NBA Awards, Barkley who had a role in the original Space Jam was asked about his opinion on a sequel to a film that descended into theaters on November 15, 1996. Certainly, he had something positive to say about a sequel over two decades in the making. Here’s what Charles said.

When asked if he supports the sequel, his answer was “Not at all,”

Then when asked whether he supports it, Barkley was ready to answer with – “Well, listen, I don’t care,” he continued. “Space Jam 1 was amazing. We don’t need 2.”

There you have it, everyone. It’s a good thing Barkley is not serving in any producing capacity on the sequel. The much hyped follow up will star Lebron James. He recently expressed his enthuse and disbelief at being center in Space Jam 2 on Twitter.

Star of the original film, Michael Jordan has voiced his hope that LA Clippers star Blake Griffin would get a role in the film. Griffin has also expressed his interest in joining the out of this world sequel. When asked about the possibility Griffin commented –

“Absolutely, absolutely. I’d love to be involved in any capacity, really. Space Jam was a huge part of my childhood. I actually had a Space Jam-themed birthday party as a teen,” he said. “Then, when I turned 21, my friends got me a Space Jam cake again just to re-live the glory days…. If you told me when I was 8 years old that I could possibly have a chance to be in Space Jam 2, it would have blown my mind. That would just be like another check off the bucket list.”

So, Space Jam 2 is happening whether Barkley sees it or not. Can’t wait to read his comments after it releases. The man has some zingers.
