Introducing Gorr, the God Butcher! Late last night, the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer 2 and poster dropped during the NBA half-time on ABC. The trailer is now available online to all, and, well, here it is. There’s not a ton of differences here from that first teaser trailer. However the selling point here is our first look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. Check it out.
I love the look of Gorr, and the way the colors around him shift to monochromatic. Later in the trailer we see Thor, in what I assume to be Gorr’s territory. There we see the opposite, a spot of color in an otherwise monochromatic environment. Bale is a phenomenal actor and he really does look menacing here. One assumes Gorr will have a good reason to do what he is doing? However whatever that is, it ultimately still puts him on a collision course with Thor, Valkyrie, and Mighty Thor. Perhaps my favorite moment of this trailer though is the shot of Russell Crowe’s Zeus stripping Thor naked. It just looks like a lot of fun, and that’s exactly what I’d expect from a sequel to Thor: Ragnarok. Below is the official blurb from the press release.

A new trailer and poster are now available for Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder,” revealing new details about the God of Thunder’s latest adventure—including a trek to Olympus where Zeus (Russell Crowe) reigns supreme. The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.
To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Directed by Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, “Thor: Love and Thunder” opens in U.S. theaters July 8, 2022.
Predicting right now that Zeus is getting killed by Gorr. Other than that, I can’t wait for this one. Probably my most anticipated MCU movie currently dated.
