Thor’s Hammer Teased For Avengers: Infinity War In Set Photo

If for some reason you have yet to see the trailer for the awesome-looking Thor: Ragnarok, then I highly recommend you do so before reading forward. The trailer is right above, so go ahead and just get it over with. I’ll wait.

So as we saw in that trailer, Cate Blanchett’s Hela left Thor’s mighty hammer, Mjolnir shattered into tons of little pieces. I’m no hammer doctor, but it seems like it would be quite the Herculean task to put that Humpty Dumpty back together again. Plus, based on what we see in the rest of the trailer, it seems like Thor goes at least most of the movie without his trademark weapon. But what does this mean Mjolnir’s fate? Does the Marvel Cinematic Universe actually have the confidence to strip away one of the most memorable parts of the character?

Of course not. At least not for good. This is, after all, a comic book movie, and nothing — not even a hammer — stays dead for long. Avengers: Infinity War directors The Russo Brothers recently took to Instagram, and in a new photo, we can see a priest very clearly holding Mjolnir.

Just as no one really thought Superman died for good at the end of Batman v Superman, I doubt very many thought we’d seen the last of the mighty Thor’s hammer in the MCU. While the MCU has proven that they are great at telling compelling stories, they haven’t really proven they’re willing to take big risks in terms of their deaths. The only real character to die has been Quicksilver, and let’s face it, he was one of the least interesting parts of the universe this, save for maybe Ronan the Accuser and Malekith the Accursed.

But this leaves us one question…how? How is it that they were able to bring Mjolnir back together? Was it some form of Asgardian super glue, or some sort of magic spell that brings it all back together. Like most things in life…only time will tell.
