Tim Burton On The Edgar Scissorhands Super Bowl Commercial

For the most part, Super Bowl commercials aren’t quite what they once were. That doesn’t mean there aren’t a few gems that stand out above the rest. One of those advertisements came from Cadillac. The ad featured Winona Ryder as the mother of Edgar Scissorhands who was played by actor Timothée Chalamet, who was excellent in the short amount of time he was on screen.

Like father, like son, as the commercial shows Edgar doing his best to overcome obstacles in his everyday life that most of us think of as simple, routine tasks. According to the Los Angeles Times, the director of the film that inspired the commercial, Tim Burton, gave the idea a big thumbs up back in its early stages. You can find the commercial and what Burton had to say about it in a statement below.

“It’s rare when a work you’re proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years. I’m glad to see Edgar coping with the new world! I hope both fans and those being introduced to Edward Scissorhands for the first time enjoy it.”

If given the choice, I would vote film remake as opposed to a revival/continuation of the franchise. Casting the lead is already done. I’d say this commercial was Timothée Chalamet’s audition, should anything ever move forward with the franchise. Yes, I know this was but a fun nostalgic ad, but the response on social media shows lots of love and interest for the Scissorhands family. You never know what may come from something like this.
