Timothee Chalamet Opens Up About Dune As First Official Image Hits

Timothee Chalamet opens up about Dune as the first official image appears of him as Paul Atreides. Read on for more details.

I won’t deny I’m a little excited to see the Dune remake coming this December. I’ve enjoyed the novel, even though not as obsessively as some fans, and I enjoyed the old David Lynch version of Dune. This time, what excites me is Denis Villeneuve being director. As a fan of Villeneuve’s style, I can’t wait to see how he imagines the classic Frank Herbert story.

When Dune releases this December it will only be part one of that original Dune novel. The original  Dune story is being split into a two-part movie, which I believe most fans seem happy with. Luckily Dune has not been delayed due to Coronavirus, like so many other properties. Vanity Fair has now released their first of a two part Dune preview, and they spoke to star Timothee Chalamet about his role as Paul Atreides.

Warner Bros has also provided the first official image of Chalamet as Atreides in the movie. The image shows Chalamet’s Atreides standing on a beach as he awaits transport ships landing. The ships are coming to collect the Atreides family for their journey to Arrakis. Check it out

Chalamet talks the character of Paul Atriedes.

“The immediately appealing thing about Paul was the fact that in a story of such detail and scale and world-building, the protagonist is on an anti-hero’s-journey of sorts. He thinks he’s going to be sort of a young general studying his father and his leadership of a fighting force before he comes of age, hopefully a decade later, or something like that.”

Of course, the character of Paul Atreides gets a lot more then he was expecting when he visits Arrakis. The planet of Spice and giant worms, is where Paul will meet his destiny. A destiny that will have major effects on the Galaxy at large. Chalamet is joined by the likes of Oscar Isaac as his father, with Jessica Chastain as his mother. Not to mention Josh Brolin as his instructor and general hard-case Gurney Halleck. It’s one helluva cast Villeneuve has gathered here for what should be an epic sci-fi movie.

When it comes to box office numbers though, I have my worries about Dune. Villeneuve is a movie-buff’s director, but his movies haven’t stormed the box office. Blade Runner 2049 was a phenomenal movie, but it did not make phenomenal money. Luckily it seems like Dune Part 2 has the green light without waiting for the first movie’s numbers. However, if Dune doesn’t take off, then it makes it tricky for Hollywood to green light more big budget adaptations like Dune in the future. I therefore hope Dune does makes a profit, and I hope it’s the best version of this adaptation yet.

What do you think as Timothee Chalamet opens up about Dune? Are you as excited as I am to see Villeneuve’s version of Dune? Leave your thoughts below in the usual spot.
