Titans’ Season Finale Trailer Sets Up Robin Vs. Batman

It’s once again the end of the week which means that DC Universe has released a new episode of Titans followed by a trailer for next weeks episode, which in this case will be the season finale. This week’s episode was titled “Koriand’r” and it featured brief Donna Troy, played by Conner Leslie, using her lasso, Starfire, played by Anna Diop getting her memory back thanks to last weeks mind tinkering by Raven, played by Teagan Croft, and our the first appearance of one major DC character. But the events of this weeks episode is not what’s making the news today, it’s next weeks season finale trailer for the episode titled, “Dick Grayson.” Check it out above!

As we can see, Jason Todd, played by Curran Walters has found Dick Grayson, played by Brenton Thwaites once again to plead with him to go back to Gotham and stop Batman from killing the Joker, who has been consumed with darkness after the death of Commissioner Gordon. He spends most of the trailer trying to stay out of the situation because of how long he has spent doing all he can to distance himself from Batman this entire series. But then the trailer shows us brief shots of dead Batman foes like Harvey Dent aka Two-Face, Edward Nygma aka the Riddler and a face-down dead Joker. Along with them, Grayson visits a morgue filled with people Batman has killed. The trailer wraps up with Starfire, who seems to be a detective or a cop now saying that Batman must be stopped and Grayson saying, “let’s end this”, setting up a ROBIN vs. BATMAN season finale.

This is quite the twist to the Titans series mainly because it’s well known how much the powers at DC Entertainment an Warner Bros. Television limit even talking about the Dark Knight in the Arrowverse. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until FOX’s Gotham that they loosened their grip on allowing those shows to reference Batman and Gotham which let them finally make a crossover like Elseworlds possible and even maybe a Batwoman series. So it comes of a surprise that we are going to get the opportunity to see Batman in a television series. Granted this could be a way to draw more attention to the DC Universe’s streaming service because it is a fact that Batman sells and let’s be honest the DCEU doesn’t seem to be rushing to bring him back to the big screen.

But as for the reason this is happening in the series, I have a pretty good idea of who and what forces are behind this showdown. If you have been watching this series up to this point, you know that there certain forces at play here that make this make sense. By the looks of the trailer, Grayson is pretty comfortable in a suburban house maybe even in a relationship. Like I had mentioned before, Kori seems to be in law enforcement, Jason is in a wheelchair and Beast Boy, played by Ryan Potter, and Rachel do not seem to be involved. All of this doesn’t really add up. What’s really going on? Find out next week on Titans!
