Titans Star Thinks The Show Is Superior To Infinity War

Titans is, of course, the TV series showing on DC’s new streaming service DC Universe. It is a live-action adaptation of Teen Titans the popular cartoon show and comic book. Whilst the source remains the same, this is a very different beast to what fans of the cartoon show will recognize. The tone of the new show is dark and gritty.

While this show does not take place within the DCEU, DC and parent company WB are likely hoping the Titans TV show can have a deeper impact on audiences than their movie output has done recently. Still the DC brand is playing catch up way behind the juggernaut that is the MCU, with the Marvel brand finding its way into casual audiences, as well as comic book fans hearts.

Speaking at New York Comic-Con and covered by CBR, Titans star Alan Ritchson who plays Hawk in the show says that he thinks Titans is better than Avengers: Infinity War and explains why he thinks this.

“I think I’m just excited that the fans are finally getting a really raw, human look at superheroes. I think, for me, the reason I don’t go see Infinity War movies or whatever these are is because there’s no stakes in it, everybody feels invincible all the time.”

Hmm, “Infinity War movies or whatever these are” seems kind of dismissive, and I’m not sure the argument stacks up when you reference a movie where, if he had seen it, he would know that half the life in the universe is wiped out along with half of the cast?

However, he has a point that the Marvel movies are designed for families and therefore don’t get into the gritty beer slugging, drug dependant heroes who beat people up on the streets. That content is kept for Netflix in the MCU, and I wonder if Ritchson has seen this season of Daredevil yet, before he comments on no stakes and people being invincible?

Personally, I feel there’s room for both approaches from both companies and always have done so, The Fantastic Four, Superman, Flash and the Guardians of the Galaxy shouldn’t be gritty and violent, but Daredevil, Batman, Moon Knight etc should.

As a UK resident, unfortunately, I have no access to Titans yet to try it for myself. Although Netflix has acquired the international rights, they have not yet announced the air date for the show on the streaming platform as yet.

I guess I will see if Ritchson is correct, but unless half the cast dies in Season 1, I am calling this a slightly uninformed opinion.

What do you think of Ritchson’s comments, have you watched Titans yet? Let us know what you think in the usual place below.
