News broke late yesterday that Wonder Man wasn’t getting a Season 2 after all and was cancelled by Disney and we have comments from star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The news was broken by Variety and it was a surprise because it had previously been announced that Season 2 was in development (see related section below). We have no idea why the series has been canned by Disney but one must assume low viewing figures on Disney+.

I actually completely get why a lot of MCU fans wouldn’t care for Wonder Man, it’s not for kids and is instead a more mature drama series that happens to be set in the MCU.

I genuinely enjoyed it, as did other critics. However, I said in my review that I don’t think he average Marvel fan would be into it. I assume that was the case after all, which is a shame.

Star of the show Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been nominated for awards for his performance as Simon Williams and took to Instagram, as covered by Variety, to give this thoughts.

“Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!” Abdul-Mateen wrote on Instagram, referencing Variety’s exclusive reporting, published earlier Thursday. “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out.”

This of course does not man that Simon, or Trevor will never return to the MCU. Though, I’m not sure either would fit in Avengers type films, maybe X-Men given he is a Mutant? Either way don’t expect to find out what happened next to the pair in a Wonder Man Season 2.

Still, who knows, maybe this is the last we see of either in the MCU and we can imagine them going on to be big stars, however unlikely that seems to be. Let us know below what you think of the news that Wonder Man has been cancelled?
