Tolkien: Nicholas Hoult Creates His Own Fellowship In New Trailer

Tolkien is getting his own movie. No, not those Lord of the Rings movies or the Hobbit movies, but a TV show chronicling his life. In the new film starring Nicholas Hoult, we are given the opportunity to get a peek inside his life pre-Lord of the Rings and pre-Hobbit. We get to see the moments in his life that became influential in the shaping of Middle-Earth.

So how does it look? Well, it does look very pretty and well-acted, but I’ll admit being nervous about this one. I get a very generic Bohemian Rhapsody vibe. I feel like every moment of his life will have some cheesy connection to his stories and that it’ll be a real whitewashing of the events that took place. Plus, I know J.R.R. Tolkien himself was always adamant that his books held no metaphors, and the way this looks, they’re finding metaphors in EVERYTHING.

But what do you think?

Below is the official synopsis for Tolkien:

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.”

Tolkien heads into theaters on May 10, 2019.
