COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on studio release schedules and Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse is the latest film to fall prey to continued delays and cinema closures. The silver lining for fans of Clancy’s work is that we’ll be able to enjoy this flick from the comfort of our homes before too long.
Previously slated for release in 2020, Paramount has just sold the distribution rights to the Michael B. Jordan fronted and produced action-thriller to Amazon. Given that the streaming service is already the home of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, it makes sense and is a huge get for the service. Jordan is one of the hottest stars in cinema and in a war among streaming services, exclusive content is king.
The film will adapt the book of the same name, which stars US Navy SEAL John Clark out for revenge. Clark is no strangers to fans of Clancy’s work, as the character has appeared in multiple books and has been portrayed in film by the likes of Liev Schreiber (The Sum of All Fears) and Willem Dafoe (Clear and Present Danger). Gamers will likely note the name as the leader of Rainbow 6.

I’m hoping this move leads to broader appeal for the Ryanverse. The Harrison Ford lead movies were probably my favorite of the bunch and since then, we’ve had multiple false starts with the likes of Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears) and Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit). Amazon is currently streaming Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, starring John Krasinski. As a fan of the first season, the second was a huge letdown for me. It started off great, as a loose adaptation of Clear and Present Danger, but had none of the charm, intelligence or stakes of the book or the original movie starring Harrison Ford.
I’ve been a fan of Tom Clancy’s work since adolescence and I’m quietly waiting for this universe to catch fire with a wider audience, so we can move beyond just Jack Ryan and get adaptations of Rainbow 6 and Splinter Cell.
I, no kidding, read Rainbow Six with Willem Dafoe and Raymond Cruz as Clark and Ding, respectively, in my head. Likewise, I would be looking for the Michael Ironside cameo in a Splinter Cell series or movie as a disgruntled, retired COL trying to impart wisdom to a younger Fisher about the rigors of the job or being a parent. Hopefully, the 3rd season of Jack Ryan recovers and Without Remorse does well and I’ll get my wish.
Directed by Stefano Sollima (ZeroZeroZero), Without Remorse stars Jordan, Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith and Luke Mitchell. Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Hell or High Water) penned the script.
Without Remorse will premiere on Amazon Prime at a yet to be disclosed date.
