In less than two weeks fans will get a taste of Tom Hardy’s Venom. Many fans are apprehensive since the film seems to have abandoned the character’s comic book origin. On top of that, many fans expected the film to receive an R-rating, which we now know isn’t going to happen as the film has officially been rated PG-13. While speaking with metro.uk, Hardy commented on the upcoming film’s rating.
“Is it going to be R-Rated? That’s the big question and the answers been answered, isn’t it? [It’s a 15 in the UK] and it’s a PG-13 in the states, but to be fair the thing can fulcrum into R-Rated and fulcrum into youth or children.

Hardy, who is father of young children continued, saying:
‘My littlest ones, they watch Spider-Man and Venom quite comfortably and Venom toys appear and LEGO appear. So it’s not like they’re scared by him, and at the same time there’s a lot in the real estate that you can actually imbue with a complete sense of gratuitous violence if you really wanted to, and I think you’ve got the right people for that job if you want to push it, course that’s where I want to go with it.’
The rating is what it is, PG-13. Even with the success of two R-rated Deadpool movies, Sony decided against Venom having an R-rating. I would have liked to see the possibilities that would have been unlocked with an R-rated Venom, as far as language and violence, however, this isn’t something that in my opinion is going to sink the film. If it’s a bad film, having it R-Rated wouldn’t have saved it. Though if it’s great an R-rating could possibly enhance it. Perhaps there will be an R-rated cut released later.
