Tom Hiddleston Says Loki Is A Man Of Many Masks

Loki

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is one of those characters that confuse your emotions. On one hand, he is a villain and at times can be a dick, but he also has qualities (more of them) that make him one of the best characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The type of guy where you know better than to trust him, then you do, and he double-crosses you, and all you can do is laugh and say, “Classic Loki!”

Hiddleston recently spoke with EmpireOnlne about his character’s upcoming Disney+ series. You can check out what he had to say below.

“I want to preserve the freshness of the show for when it emerges, but something to think about is the [show’s] logo, which seems to refresh and restore,” he teases. “The font of how Loki is spelled out seems to keep changing shape. Loki is the quintessential shapeshifter. His mercurial nature is that you don’t know whether, across the MCU, he’s a hero or a villain or an anti-hero. You don’t know whether you can trust him. He literally and physically changes shape into an Asgardian guard, or into Captain America repeatedly. Thor talks about how he could change into a snake.”

More from Hiddleston:

“I think that shapeshifting logo might give you an idea that Loki, the show, is about identity, and about integrating the disparate fragments of the many selves that he can be, and perhaps the many selves that we are. I thought it was very exciting because I’ve always found Loki a very complex construct. Who is this character who can wear so many masks, and changes shape, and seems to change his external feeling on a sixpence?”

While I have enjoyed the most recent MCU release on Disney+ in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki interests me far more. There’s just more possibility and the strangeness of those possibilities grab my attention in a much stronger way. It’s also great to have Loki back, while the character had an epic and permanent end in Avengers: Infinity War, the new series brings him back and does it in a way where it doesn’t take away from having his larynx crushed by Thanos.

And while Loki s sure to keep us occupied for a while, there is are more goodies on the way to Disney+ for Marvel fans.
