TOMB RAIDER Reboot Begins Filming Next Month!

It seems like the same trend constantly repeats itself in Hollywood. For decades, fans have been hungry for a good video game movie, and unfortunately, that’s the one thing we’ve been deprived of in the age of big blockbusters. Earlier this year, it was hoped that Warcraft would be the turn of the tide needed to usher in the video game movie era, and when that failed, the burden shifted to Assassin’s Creed, a film set to hit theaters this weekend.

Well, the verdict is in on that movie, and if the buzz is to be believed, Assassin’s Creed will likely not be the film to open the floodgates. With only 87 reviews counted so far, the film is sitting at a low 18 percent rating on the review aggregator site — far from an ideal figure for fans or mainstream moviegoers. While this doesn’t necessarily spell failure for the flick, it’s certainly not the most auspicious of starts. Now, the impending Tomb Raider movie, starring the Oscar-winning Alicia Vikander, is likely set to carry the burden left by Assassin’s Creed.

Luckily for optimistic video game fans, the Tomb Raider reboot is close to getting underway, so the wait won’t be crazy long. Now, thanks to the site My Entertainment World, we now know exactly when the flick is set to shoot: January 2017. Additionally, the film is set to film in South Africa and the U.K.

But that’s not all! The site even has a rough synopsis for fans to mull over that pretty much confirms the statements made that this movie will follow the origins of a younger, more naive Lara Croft, not unlike the recent video game reboot from a few years back.

Here’s the synopsis given by the outlet:

“Following the origins of a young Lara Croft on her first archaeological expedition she must use her strength and harness her skills in order to survive a crazed Island cult and unlock mythological secrets surrounding her mysterious whereabouts.”

Thus far, apart from Vikander, the only other cast member we know about is Walton Goggins, who recently signed on as the film’s antagonist. As far as what the specifics are regarding his character…that we can only speculate.
