Top 5 Comic Book Movie Costumes | LRM Ranks It

Welcome to LRM Ranks It! This is the video feature where two LRM writers share their personal rankings for various properties! Be it comic book movies or Star Wars-related, you’d better believe we have opinions on what’s good, what’s bad, and what’s best.

This week The Cantina author, Kyle Malone, and I’d Buy That For A Dollar host, Stephon White, discuss their top five comic book movie costumes.

Comic book heroes have always had colorful and unique costumes to hide their secret identities. These costumes translate well in animation, but how do they look on the big screen in live action adaptations? The Batman costume in 1966’s Batman: The Movie looks utterly ridiculous compared to the 1989 take on the Dark Knight to us today. However, the audience had certain views and expectations of comic book characters and Adam West’s look fit that expectation. In the early 2000’s we got the X-Men clad in black leather and a character making fun of the idea of blue and yellow spandex and that made sense to a lot of people, not those of us working and visiting this site of course. Now we come to the modern era of CBMs and we expect accuracy. Maybe it’s the fact that the MCU comes from Marvel themselves, maybe the near accurate take on Spidey in the Raimi films eased studio tensions, or maybe people are just finally suspending their belief enough to accept brightly colored costumes. No matter the reason, we have a lot to be pleased with in the costume department.

Do you agree with Kyle or Stephon’s rankings? What are your favorite CBM costumes? Let us know in the comments below!
