Top Gun 3 is in development at Paramount despite Tom Cruise recently signing a non-exclusive WB deal. The information as reported by Deadline is that Paramount are pushing ahead with a sequel to the box office smash that was Top Gun: Maverick. That means Tom Cruise back in the pilot seat, despite Cruise recently signing a deal with WB/D.
The initial report of Top Gun 3 came from Puck News.
As per the trade:
‘Even though Tom Cruise inked a non-exclusive pact at Warner Bros earlier this week, it looks like he’ll continue to be busy with Paramount for some time. Reports tonight are that Top Gun 3 is in development at Paramount with Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger currently writing a draft.’
‘The word is that the project would reunite Cruise with Maverick‘s Miles Teller and Glen Powell as well as producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison. Joe Kosinski, will reportedly either direct or produce.’
Cruise is currently filming Mission: Impossible 8 at Paramount and it is expected to be some time before he gets any projects off the ground with WB/D.

Top Gun: Maverick was the highest grossing movie of Cruise’s career at the box office. It’s therefore hardly a surprise that Paramount are looking to dip into that well once again. For me, not really interested. I really didn’t care much for Maverick compared to the first movie, which is enjoyed. Maverick was an 80’s action movie for Bro’s with some modern glitz. It looked brilliant and unique, but story wise it was all a bit bobbins to me.
However, I know I am very much in the minority on that opinion, so I expect Top Gun 3 to be more of the same.
