Behold the new trailer for Netflix’s upcoming movie Extinction. The movie stars Ant-Man and the Wasp star Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage) from a script by Spenser Cohen, Eric Heisserer, and Brad Kane. The movie is directed by Ben Young (Hounds of Love) and it will hit Netflix streaming service on July 27.
Without having to do much research on this movie, the plot seems fairly straightforward from the trailer. Michael Peña’s character Peter has a normal day to day life until he starts receiving visions. The visions show him an invasion from an extra terrestrial force, but of course no one believes him. Then, when the bad guys do inevitably show up to invade, Peter’s visions of the future could be the only way to defeat the invading alien threat.
Whilst we have seen alien invasion movies galore over the years, Extinction immediately looks a little different. The invading force don’t seem as far beyond our own technology levels as is the norm for these types of movies. The attacking ships seem to be using rockets and projectile weapons as opposed to the usual ray guns and laser beams.
Does this trailer entice me enough to watch this? Probably, I could see me getting to Extinction at some point in the future. However, it feels like something I’d watch when I have nothing else left to watch if you know what I mean.
