It’s been about a decade since Sam Mendes has released a non-James-Bond-related feature film. Sure, it may have been only two of them (Skyfall, Spectre), but it was enough to occupy a substantial amount of time, with a single video short making up his directing efforts in the time between Spectre and now.
But it looks like Mendes is back and in top form in the new World War I film 1917. Universal has just dropped the first trailer for it, and it looks to have real shades of Dunkirk in it in terms of its intensity and style. Check out the trailer below!
Below is the official synopsis for 1917:
“At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.”
