Back in the 1990s, a good Friday night meant visiting the local video rental store and picking out one’s favorite horror movie to watch. Unless a serial killer is on the loose to make that nightmare come true.

Fangoria premiered the trailer and release date for The Boy From Below, a slasher-horror film that has all the feels of 1990s horror movies we loved.

The film brought two horror icons of the 80s and 90s, Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Howling, Critters) and Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp). The rest of the cast includes Tommy Lee Wallace, Jack Norman, Spooky Madison, and Chaney Morrow. Tory Jones directed the movie from the script he wrote with Jerron Spencer and Cheyenne Gordon.

Here is the official synopsis:

It’s Halloween 1997 in the small town of Carpenter Falls, where video store clerk Quinn Curtis is preparing for a night of horror marathons and local festivities. But when a figure from the town’s dark past surfaces in the form of a masked killer known as the Boy from Below, the night takes a deadly turn. Obsessed with horror movies, the killer begins recreating his own twisted version of classic slasher scenarios, targeting Quinn and her friends. As the body count rises, Quinn must rely on her deep knowledge of the genre to outthink a relentless predator and survive the night.

“A killer with real iconography, a filmmaker who understands the genre from the inside out, and the kind of raw, crowd-pleasing energy that horror fans are hungry for right now,” said Epic Pictures’ Patrick Ewald to Fangoria. “We’re dropping this one in August to ride straight into Halloween season, and we couldn’t be more excited for audiences to see it.”

The Boy From Below is available digitally and on VOD on August 11, 2026.
