Two Star Wars Animated Shows Scheduled For 2021 | LRM’s Barside Buzz

latest Ahsoka and Damon Lindelof Star Wars movie rumors

According to our source, there are plans for two Star Wars animated series to debut on Disney+ next year. We already have had an announcement for the first show being The Bad Batch. In addition to this announcement, there will be another standalone animated series that will debut in 2021. We cannot confirm what the second show will be with multiple rumors swirling around of what it could be. There have been rumors by the guys at KRT that it is a Rebels sequel series. Also, we have heard of a possible Rogue Squadron show that is in early development.

Star Wars The Bad Batch

We know one of the animated series scheduled for next year will be The Bad Batch. The guys over at Kessel Run Transmissions broke this scoop a couple of months ago.  This series will take place after the events of Order 66 where Clone Force 99 will be taking on mercenary missions while trying to find a place in the new galaxy. There are some speculations that we will see Captain Rex and Ahsoka in this show as well.

As far as the second show it is a mystery. The most logical guess is a sequel to the Rebels series starring Ahsoka and Sabine. However, I have my doubts since it seems that Ahsoka and Sabine will be in the second season of The Mandalorian. If I had to guess what the other series would be about I would probably say it would be an original series with no ties to the movies. The live-action shows lined up for the foreseeable future take place during the Empire era.

Having two animated shows lined up for next year makes sense. The only live-action show that we know of schedule for next year is the third season of The Mandalorian. Due to various reasons, the other live-action shows that have been announced won’t start production until next year.  The first to start filming is the untitled Cassian Andor series and then the highly anticipated Kenobi series.  In addition, other shows that have been rumored like the live-action Ahsoka show and Boba Fett show have not been confirmed by Disney.

It would have made sense to make this announcement at Star Wars Celebration but with it being canceled due to Covid-19 we are not sure when it will happen. Our hope is that Bob Chapek will make an announcement at the next Disney Investor’s Day.
