UPDATE! James Gunn Confirms FOUR Returning Actors

James Gunn has been on social media talking Peacemaker Season 2 and he says he has a 'way in' to explain how Season 2 is set in the DCU.

UPDATE! James Gunn confirms three FOUR returning actors from the DCEU! This is a repost of a story we ran yesterday and the rest of that story is below as is. However since we published and I theorized this very fact below, Gunn has confirmed a fourth returning actor. No surprises that if Cena is back as Peacemaker, you need Freddie Stroma back as Vigilante.

Here is the link on Threads, quote below.

“Yes Freddie as Vigilante is still around.”

Simple, but effective. As I say below, one would also then by proxy say Gunn’s wife Jennifer Holland  will return as Emilia Harcourt. Good, the gang need to get back together for Peacemaker Season 2.

Original Story Below

Let’s start with the canon comments. Gunn was responding to fans confused about what is and what is not canon on Threads. In the response Gunn explained that nothing is canon to the DCU yet. Not until the Creature Commandos animated series and the Superman: Legacy movie.

“Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year – a sort of aperitif to the DCU – & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.”

Creature Commandos is one of the few DCU projects that’s been able to move ahead. For a start all the scripts were written before the strikes and the current SAG-AFTRA strike does not cover animation. However, it is expected (as per Variety) that Superman: Legacy will begin filming this coming Spring.

Yet, Gunn did confirm three actors who will be reprising their roles from the DCEU. Two of them we already knew, but one we did not.

“Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller, and John Cena will Peacemaker.”

Xolo Maridueña was hinted at previously, but never confirmed. Where things do get a little weird is that Blue Beetle just released and Gunn also just told us it is not canon to the DCU. So will Jaime Reyes just turn up in the DCU at some point, already Blue Beetle, and we just don’t get a new origin? Maybe that is the best solution here?

Equally I think we can add a few more names to that list. Specifically the other cast members of Peacemaker. If we are still getting a Peacemaker Season 2, even though the current Peacemaker is not canon (see Gunn’s comments above), then will it be even connected to what came before? See, it is confusing when you think about it too much. However, I would expect Vigilante and Harcourt at least to return as well.

The next DC movie is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The problem is, everyone knows it means nothing in relation to the DCU that comes after. Momoa is not even one of the actors confirmed to return by Gunn. In fact, there are rumors Gunn and Safran have sounded out Momoa about playing Lobo in the DCU. Yet, we’ve also been told no one will be playing Arthur Curry (Aquaman) but Momoa.

It seems it’s best we just wait for Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy then see the universe build from there. When someone shows up, we can question how effectively it was handled.

What do you think as James Gunn says nothing is canon in the DCU till Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy? What do you think about the three four returning actors from the DCEU? Thoughts below as always.
