UPDATE:
A couple days ago Deadline broke the story that 20th Century Studios has approached Dan Trachtenberg to direct the next Predator film being written by Patrick Aison. They didn’t have any specifics regarding the actual plot but it seems that Alien vs. Predator Galaxy has some knowledge regarding the upcoming film. They express that what they know seems like a leap for the casual person but the dedicated fans of the franchise will understand.
Their information ties into a story that Discussing Film exclusively announced back in 2019 that Trachtenberg was developing a film with 20th Century Studios and Disney called Skulls, also written by Patrick Aison and was to be producer by long time Predator series producer John Davis. Discussing Film also provided some small details about Skulls’ plot.
‘Skulls’ will follow a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior.
Now Alien vs. Predator Galaxy is using this information to tie-in to the information they know. According to the outlet’s sources the next Predator film will be set in the past. The premise is that it would focus around the Native Americans before the exploration era. The outlet also claims that it would feature a First Nations. From the recent news from the other outlets Alien vs. Predator Galaxy are linking all this information together and Skulls is either the working title or codename for the upcoming Predator film
Fans of the Predator franchise can rejoice because it looks like 20th Centuries Studios is bringing the alien hunter back. According to Deadline 20th Century Studios has approached 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct the next Predator film. This would be the fifth installment of the Predator solo films along with two films that included the Alien franchise. The script is being written by Patrick Aison, who has credits attached to Kingdom, Jack Ryan, and Treadstone.

As a fan of the Predator films I am excited to see another film in the works but I am a little shocked. While the follow up films have tried to recreate the magic the original film it has never been replicated. The films do make a decent return since their budgets are traditional on the lower side. According to BoxOfficeMojo the last film in the franchise grossed over $160,000,000 worldwide while operating on a budget of $88,000,000. So with a great return you can see why 20th Century Studios doesn’t mind moving forward with another Predator film. With the project in a very early stage it is safe to assume that we won’t see this film hit theaters until 2022 or 2023.
