SBIFF 2020: Variety’s Artisans Award Red Carpet Interviews Day 5

There are notable performances and films the past year that will be honored during the awards season.

The people behind the scenes should also be honored for their hard work and dedication, in which made the dreams for these actors, directors, and producers to come true.

In a partnership with Variety, Santa Barbara International Film Festival presented the Variety Artisans Award to honor the crafts personnel that supported the recognizable films in the past year.

Variety’s artisans editor Jazz Tangcay held a discussion with each of the award recipients at the historic Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara.

Here’s the following list of the award recipients:

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez: The songwriting duo were being honored for the songwriting work on Frozen II. The song “Into the Unknown” is nominated for Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards.

Michael Giacchino: The composer was recognized for the original composition for Jojo Rabbit.

Kazu Hiro: The makeup and hair artist was recognized for Bombshell, in which he transformed Charlize Theron into Megyn Kelly and Nicole Kidman into Gretchen Carlson. The makeup and hair team is nominated for best makeup and hair at this year’s Academy Awards.

Barbara Ling: The production designer was being honored for creating the period sets for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. She and Nancy Haigh are nominated at this year’s Academy Awards for Production Design.

Steven Morrow: The sound mixer was being recognized for capturing and mixing the sounds for Ford v Ferrari. The sound mixing team is also nominated at this year’s Academy Awards.

Christopher Peterson and Sandy Powell: The costume designers were honored for their design and work in Netflix’s The Irishman. They are also nominated for costume design at this year’s Academy Award.

Lawrence Sher: The cinematographer was recognized for his outstanding camerawork in Joker. He is nominated for this year’s Academy Awards for Best Cinematography.

Lee Smith: The film editor was recognized for his editing working in 1917.

Adam Valdez: The VFX specialist was honored for the visual effects in The Lion King. The visual effects team is also nominated for Visual Effects at this year’s Academy Awards.
