Venom Begins Production, Releases First Set Photo

Last week, we reported on Venom beginning production this week, and per the initial report, it looks like production has officially started. Venom is the first of (so far) two planned films to spin off of the current iteration of the Spider-Man. The official Twitter account for the movie took to the social media service last night to share the first set photo.

Sadly, there isn’t a whole lot we can infer from this photo. It’s hard to tell who’s who, between the glare and awkward angles of everyone’s face, but that was probably intentional to some degree.

Venom is directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer. It stars Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate — mostly in unknown roles, with the exception of Hardy himself, who is confirmed to play Eddie Brock.

As far as we know, the Venom film will be taking place in the same universe as Spider-Man: Homecoming, but like The Defenders franchise on Netflix, we won’t be expecting to see Iron Man, Thor, or any of the other Avengers pop in anytime soon. For the most part, the universe will likely be more of a backdrop.
