Apparently, Venom is basically The Mask. One follows a pushover whose personality changes when he puts on a mask, with his alter ego indulging in all of his innermost desires. One follows a man who gets infected with a parasite who encourages to indulge in all of his most innermost desires. Oh, okay. I guess I can see where the editor of the above video got the idea.

In the new video from YouTuber Darth Blender, we get to see these two concepts mashed together in an interesting little fan trailer. Most of the footage and audio is from The Mask, but every now and then, it gets interspersed with audio from the Venom trailer. In it, we get to see a potentially darker trailer for Jim Carrey’s classic physical comedy film.

While this trailer definitely makes me want to go and watch The Mask again for the first in what must be 20 years, it does seem to have the inverse effect on me for Venom. If anything, this makes Venom seem like a much less interesting concept — and one that’s prone to all kinds of silliness in all the wrong ways.

But, of course, like anything, I’ll have to wait until the film comes out before I actually make a call there. What do you think of this mash-up? Let us know your thoughts down below!
