The supposed VenomVerse is ever-expanding with information. Not too long ago, That Hashtag Show revealed some interesting plot details for one film Silver & Black (which will supposedly feature Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Scorpion), and THR is now reporting that another big name — apart from Tom Hardy — is in talks to join the Venom film.
According to the outlet, actor Riz Ahmed is looking to potentially join the production. Ahmed is most widely known for his role in last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but he also made quite the splash a couple years before in the Jake Gyllenhaal film, Nightcrawler. So who will he be playing? Early reports stated that he would be playing the film’s big bad Carnage, but the outlet continues, saying that Ahmed was originally considered for the role before changes were made to the screenplay. So no go for Carnage — at least for Ahmed.

Specific details regarding the Venom film are still under wraps, but so far we do know that Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer is directing it, and that Tom Hardy is set to play the character Eddie Brock. In the comics, Brock is a photographer who turns into Venom after bonding with an alien symbiote. He’s probably best known as a villain to Spider-Man, but he’s also something of an anti-hero. His best known nemesis is that of Carnage (though Carnage is also a Spider-Man villain), who is a much darker take on the same concept. Essentially, Carnage is what you get when you have a total psychopath merge with the symbiote.
The Venom film, along with Silver & Black, are supposedly set in the same universe as Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it’s unlikely that any other character in the MCU other than Spider-Man himself will play any role in these films. Given Sony’s hit-or-miss track record, many fans are hesitant to accept these movies. However, with Tom Hardy starring and Riz Ahmed potentially joining the fray, it’s becoming harder and harder to stay cynical about these flicks.
What do you think? Does Riz Ahmed potentially joining give you any more faith in the film? Sound off down below!
