October is looking like an enjoyable time to hit the cinema. Marvel fans will get their first official peek at what team Sony have up their sleeve for the impending universe of Marvel films, starting with Venom. This film may really knock the socks off fans. It will have to if team Sony wants to really capture something other than just people’s dollars.
Time is precious, and no one has two hours to watch a movie struggle to hit its marks. Hopefully, the film will capture fans imaginations. Because there’s nothing like turning off the logical part of the brain, and being swept into the magical world of cinema. Great movies can do that. Hell, good movies can do that. The worst movies, make you look at your cell phone, and ponder dinner recipes.
But what will this film actually be like? It turns out Venom has quite the unlikely inspiration. In a recent interview with USA Today, Ruben Fleischer said,
“An American Werewolf in London was an influence for the body horror faced by Eddie Brock.”

To that I say you have very beautiful sheep. Meaning if they’re pulling from the playbook of a classic film like An American Werewolf in London, then there’d better be some humor. A few chuckles between some breathtaking badassery sounds like a promising idea. Especially since Fleischer goes on to say this about striking a balance between laughs and gore.
“But there’s also a funny side to this menacing figure, including a “silly tongue always dangling out of his mouth that kind of undercuts the ferociousness of the jaws.”
It’s Friday, so I am going to have a toast to this film being awesome. In fact as we get closer to October, I may revisit every film Tom Hardy has starred in since he’s so magnetic. How can I go wrong with a marathon starting with Bronson, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception, Lawless, and let me stop right here and just say that Hardy has serious acting chops.
