The optics for the Venom film ain’t too good right now. I don’t think you need me to tell you that. If you just look to your left or right and ask that person if they’re interested. If there’s no one around, you feel free to search our comments section or the comments of a random YouTube clip, and it’s clear that there’s a lot of apathy towards it. Sure, what they’ve shown us has been serviceable, but in a world where we just got Avengers: Infinity War, that’s no longer acceptable.
And yet, between the news that the film will be PG-13 to the whole smell of it feeling a lot like a studio cash grab, optimism doesn’t seem to be at an all-time high. And now we have this comment from Hardy himself. When asked by Comics Explained what his favorite scenes are:
“There are scenes that aren’t in this movie. There are, like, 30 to 40 minutes’ worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie… all of them. Mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes. You know what I mean? They just never made it in.”

While the comment, on its surface, is no big deal, I can’t help but flash back to Suicide Squad. For that film, there were rumors of there being a ton of extra Joker footage that ended up on the cutting room floor, and by this point, many seem to agree that Joker was under-used in this film. Does this mean the same could be happening with Venom, with a lot of good stuff being cut?
Personally, I don’t think so. Director Ruben Fleischer is there as a director to help shepherd the vision to completion. He has to be the one to take out scenes when they’re overly-indulgent, and as much as I love Hardy, I think he does have the potential to indulge a bit much — all the greats do.
But what do you think? Does this raise any questions like it initially did with me? Let us know down below!
