Vertical Entertainment Acquires Miss Virginia, Starring Orange Is The New Black Star Uzo Aduba

Vertical Entertainment, the company known fro collaborating with XYZ Films on such projects as HolidaysUnder The Shadow, and Headshot, has just acquired the North American distribution rights for the film Miss Virginia. The film, starring Orange Is The New Black star Uzo Aduba, is inspired by the true story of Virginia Walden Ford, a struggling inner city mother who sacrifices everything in order to give her son a good education. Unwilling to let him stay in a dangerous school, she launches a movement that not only cold save his future, but that of thousands like him.

Writer/producer Erin O’Connor had this to day regarding the film and its new distribution partner:

“The Miss Virginia team is delighted to partner with Vertical in bringing the inspiring true story of Virginia Walden Ford to audiences across the US. Her story is one of grit, determination, and the transformative power of a mother who refuses to give up on her son.”

Josh Spector at Vertical and Stacey Parks and Rob Pfaltzgraff of the Moving Picture Institute (MPI), which produced the film, negotiated the deal. Directed by R.J. Daniel Hanna (EverythingShelter), Miss Virginia also stars Matthew Modine (Stranger ThingsThe Dark Knight Rises), Vanessa Williams (Ugly BettySoul FoodEraser), Aunjanue Ellis (The HelpRay), and Adina Porter (American Horror StoryTrue Blood). Vertical Entertainment plans to release the film in select North American theaters  and on Video On Demand on October 18th of this year.
