Ryoo Seung-wan’s action thriller Veteran opened in 2015 as one of Korea’s most successful action blockbusters, generating over $94 million in worldwide box office receipts. Almost a decade later, the anticipated sequel Veteran 2: I, The Executioner brings its action-packed thriller back into theaters.

Hwang Jung-min and Jung Hae-in star as cops in this cat-and-mouse chase of a serial killer teasing the police investigators at every step.

Here is the official synopsis:

In Veteran 2: I, The Executioner, Detective Seo Do-cheol (Hwang Jung-min) and his major crimes unit decide to recruit young officer Park Sun-woo (Jung Hae-in) to track down a serial killer who has plunged the nation into turmoil. When the murder of a professor reveals connections to previous cases, suspicions around the serial killer become more intense as he publicly taunts the duo and their team by announcing his next victim.

The film is already generating plenty of buzz after its recent world premiere at Cannes. It will have its North American premiere this week at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Director Ryoo Seung-wan is one of the most revered action directors in the South Korean film industry, so this film won’t disappoint.

Veteran 2: I, The Executioner is slated to be in North American theaters nationwide on September 27.
